Latvia has assumed the rotating chairmanship of the UN Security Council for the first time since joining the body, with the war in Ukraine among its stated priorities during its month at the helm. The Baltic state, a strong supporter of Kyiv, says it will use the post to keep international attention on Russia's invasion and related security issues.
Why now: A small NATO and EU state holding the Security Council chair for the first time, explicitly prioritising Ukraine, is notable amid the ongoing war.
