Eugene parking meter art moves from streets to gallery
Original: From the streets to the gallery, Eugene parking meter art goes on display
Decommissioned parking meters from Eugene, Oregon, that local artists turned into artworks have gone on display in a gallery exhibition. The pieces trace the city's decision to retire its old meters, giving artists a canvas with a piece of everyday street infrastructure. Coverage from Oregon public radio outlets highlights the project as a way of preserving a familiar part of Eugene's streetscape through public art.
Why now: A local public art exhibition is drawing regional attention as retired parking meters are repurposed into gallery pieces.
