Melbourne astrophotographer captures detailed mosaic of Orion's nebulas
Original: Orion’s Belt and Sword Program A relatively large mosaic of bright and shiny hydrogen baubles, imaged with a bright-ish
An astrophotographer in inner-city Melbourne has produced a large mosaic of the Orion region, capturing the Flame Nebula, the Horsehead Nebula, the Running Man Nebula and the Orion Nebula despite imaging under a bright Moon and city light pollution. The image, shared with other sky-watchers, shows hydrogen gas glowing brightly across Orion's Belt and Sword, and appears in southern-hemisphere orientation, prompting jokes about the sky looking upside down to viewers in the north.
Why now: Amateur astrophotography of a familiar and visually striking constellation draws attention and appreciation online.
