BBC News reports that Kenyans were caught up in a $130 million 'ghost student' scam in the United States, in which fake student enrollments were used to fraudulently obtain financial aid. Kenyan nationals were apparently recruited or implicated in the scheme, which exploited the US student loan system on a large scale.
Why now: The scale of the fraud and the involvement of Kenyan nationals make it a striking cross-border education story.
