SpaceX no longer needs NASA, and that is a problem
Original: SpaceX no longer needs NASA, and that's a problem for America's space agency
An Ars Technica analysis argues that SpaceX has become self-sufficient in spaceflight and no longer depends on NASA for contracts or technical support. The piece contends this shift weakens NASA's leverage and raises hard questions about the future role of America's space agency as the private company outpaces it in launch capability.
Why now: The claim that the US space agency has lost its central role in spaceflight is sparking debate about NASA's relevance.
