Church of Jesus Christ gives $3M to save Great Salt Lake
Original: Church of Jesus Christ donates $3M to Utah's effort to remove phragmites along Great Salt Lake
The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints has donated $3 million to Utah's effort to remove phragmites, an invasive reed, along the Great Salt Lake. The donation supports the state's wetland restoration work as officials try to improve water flow and habitat at the shrinking lake.
Why now: The Great Salt Lake's decline is a major environmental concern in Utah, so a large church-funded donation to help restore it draws attention.
