Cosimo Ferri, the former politician at the centre of the Palamara scandal, has been elected to Italy's Superior Council of the Judiciary (CSM) as one of the new judicial members, twenty years after leaving the body. Italian outlet Il Fatto Quotidiano reports his return came through a strong vote count, with critics noting he 'never really left'.

Why now: The election revives controversy over the Palamara affair and the influence of politics inside Italy's judiciary, a live issue in current CSM elections.
