The SIMBAD astronomical database, run by the Centre de données astronomiques de Strasbourg in France, is reportedly offline, along with the website of the organisation that operates it. Astronomers have been asking why the widely used stellar database is down, noting that with the host site unavailable they cannot get information from the operators either.
Why now: Researchers rely on SIMBAD daily, so an unexplained outage of the service and its operators' site is disrupting astronomy work.
