Original: Open-source Hermes turns ESP32 into voice assistant

A new open-source project called Hermes lets the inexpensive ESP32 microcontroller function as a voice assistant, with technology news outlets Adafruit and Open Source For You covering the release. The approach offers a privacy-friendly, self-hosted alternative to commercial smart speakers, letting hobbyists build voice control devices cheaply with widely available hardware.

Why now: Interest in open-source, privacy-conscious alternatives to commercial smart-home voice assistants is growing.
