Behringer Launches $150 Open-Source MPC Clone
Original: Behringer Just Made a $150 Open-Source MPC Clone
Behringer has unveiled a $150 open-source clone of the Akai MPC, the legendary sampler and drum machine at the heart of hip-hop and electronic production. The ultra-low price undercuts existing grooveboxes by a wide margin, and the open-source angle is drawing attention from producers curious to hack or modify the hardware. Reactions are mixed, with excitement about affordability and questions about how it compares to the original.
Why now: Behringer's track record of making controversial budget clones of iconic gear makes any MPC-style device an immediate talking point among producers
