FEMA and the FCC will conduct a routine nationwide test of the Emergency Alert System on November 17 at 2:20 p.m. ET, with a backup date of December 3. The test will interrupt television and radio broadcasts only, not mobile phones. The post links it to at least 23 countries and the EU urging citizens to stockpile supplies, fueling speculation about a wider crisis.

Why now: People are worried the scheduled alert test is connected to government stockpiling advice amid global tensions.
