Japan drills and preparation talk around Nankai Trough quake risk

Original: 南海トラフ地震

In Japan, attention is on the Nankai Trough megaquake as part of wider disaster readiness coverage. A news feature examines how to prepare for three looming natural disasters: a Nankai Trough earthquake, a Tokyo metropolitan earthquake and a Mount Fuji eruption. In Higashiizu, Shizuoka Prefecture, 110 people from 16 organisations took part in a training exercise on operating temporary facilities for housing the dead, reflecting growing local readiness along the Pacific coast.

Why now: Concern about a possible Nankai Trough megaquake is driving disaster-preparedness coverage and drills in Japan.
