Some automated traffic cameras, including those made by surveillance firm Flock, are being equipped with sound detection to identify vehicles with excessively loud mufflers. Drivers with modified exhausts could now be flagged by sound as well as imagery. Reaction online is mixed: some welcome action against noisy cars, while others criticise the spread of camera surveillance and worry about privacy and over-policing of motorists.
