Samsung to require parental approval for app downloads from 2027

Samsung will tighten parental controls on Galaxy smartphones and tablets with a One UI update planned for 2027. Under the new system, apps will only be installable on a child's device with explicit parental approval. The move, reported by Italian tech outlet Androidiani, positions Samsung among the most aggressive manufacturers on child safety, echoing wider regulatory pressure in Europe and elsewhere to protect minors from harmful apps and excessive screen time.
Why now: Parents and regulators are increasingly focused on protecting minors from harmful apps, so a major manufacturer locking installs behind parental approval is notable.
