Top Iowa Democratic recruit walks line on Israel-Gaza war
Original: Top Democratic recruit in Iowa balances support of Israel with criticism of war in Gaza
A top Democratic House recruit in Iowa is drawing attention for trying to balance support for Israel with criticism of the conduct of the war in Gaza. The positioning reflects a delicate calculus for Democrats in swing districts, where the conflict has divided the party's base between pro-Israel moderates and progressives demanding a harder line against the military campaign.
Why now: The Israel-Gaza war remains a politically sensitive issue that could shape competitive races in the 2026 midterms.
