Experts urge UN to declare climate change a health emergency
Original: Experts call on UN to declare climate change a health emergency
Health and climate experts are calling on the United Nations to formally declare climate change a global health emergency. The appeal argues that rising temperatures, extreme weather and air pollution are already causing deaths and disease worldwide, and that treating the crisis as a health emergency would push governments to act faster on emissions and protect vulnerable populations.
Why now: Growing concern over the immediate health impacts of heatwaves, wildfires and pollution is pushing experts to demand stronger international action.
