Experts call for global health emergency over climate harms
Original: Experts urge 'global health emergency' as climate harms and heat deaths accelerate
Health and climate experts are urging authorities to declare a global health emergency as climate-related harm accelerates, with heat deaths rising sharply alongside other impacts such as disease spread, food insecurity and extreme weather. The call, reported by Deutsche Welle, frames intensifying heatwaves and warming as a direct medical crisis requiring coordinated international response rather than treating it solely as an environmental issue.
Why now: New expert warnings linking accelerating heat deaths and climate impacts to calls for emergency declarations are drawing attention amid ongoing extreme weather.
