Donald Trump has announced that the US government will 'terminate' the methane emissions regulations introduced under Joe Biden's administration, which restricted leaks and flaring from the oil and gas sector. The pledge signals a further rollback of climate policies, drawing criticism from environmental groups while being welcomed by parts of the fossil fuel industry.
Why now: A sitting president announcing the repeal of major greenhouse gas rules has immediate implications for the oil and gas industry and US climate commitments.
