The German states of Rhineland-Palatinate, Hesse, Berlin, Saxony and Saarland are no longer part of the ongoing search for a repository for highly radioactive nuclear waste. The news is circulating among German-speaking users discussing the country's long-running and controversial effort to find a permanent storage site for atomic waste.
Why now: The withdrawal of five states from the repository search raises questions about where suitable sites remain and restarts debate over nuclear waste disposal in Germany.
