Original: hank azaria
Actor Hank Azaria is discussing his history voicing Apu Nahasapeemapetilon on The Simpsons, in a conversation framed as 'The New Apu' by The Ringer. Azaria stepped back from the role after criticism that the character reinforced harmful stereotypes of South Asian people. Attention is focused on how the show and Azaria have reflected on the controversy and what comes next.
Why now: Azaria's comments revisit the Apu controversy, a long-running flashpoint over representation and stereotyping in The Simpsons.
