The French National Museum of Natural History has launched an appeal under the title 'Under the hammer: France is about to sell its dinosaur', urging the public to help save a major dinosaur specimen from being auctioned off. Scientists and supporters are sharing the campaign widely, calling for the fossil to stay in France rather than disappear into a private collection.
Why now: A national scientific institution is campaigning against the imminent auction of an important French dinosaur fossil, prompting public concern.
