Guardian editorial warns far right EU plans would aid Xi, Putin and Trump
Original: The Guardian view on the far right’s plans for Brussels: doing the work of Xi, Putin and Trump | Editorial By Editorial
The Guardian argues that proposals from Marine Le Pen and AfD leader Alice Weidel to hollow out EU institutions would amount to a continental act of self-harm, effectively doing the work of Xi Jinping, Vladimir Putin and Donald Trump by weakening Europe from within. The editorial frames the far right's Brussels agenda as a gift to Europe's geopolitical rivals, warning of the consequences should such plans ever be enacted.
Why now: The far right's growing influence over EU policy is a live political concern across Europe.
