Original: National Black Cat Day
October 27 marks National Black Cat Day, an annual observance celebrating black cats and challenging the superstitions that have long surrounded them. Animal welfare groups use the day to encourage adoption of black cats, who are often passed over in shelters. Cat owners are sharing photos and stories of their pets to mark the occasion.
Why now: The date prompted cat owners and welfare advocates to share photos, stories and adoption appeals on social media.
