Critics mock Witkoff for calling Putin a humanitarian
Original: Are we sure that when Witkoff called Putin a humanitarian, he didn't mean that his diet consists primarily of humans? :b
US envoy Steve Witkoff has drawn ridicule after describing Vladimir Putin as a humanitarian, with critics joking online that the word was perhaps meant literally. The remark has been seized upon by Ukraine supporters, who see it as evidence of an overly soft American approach to Moscow as the war in Ukraine continues and diplomatic rhetoric around peace negotiations draws scrutiny.
Why now: Witkoff's flattering description of Putin struck many as absurd given Russia's ongoing war in Ukraine, prompting mockery and debate.
