Alice Weidel, co-leader of Germany's Alternative für Deutschland, has issued an ultimatum to the European Union, demanding radical reform and warning of the bloc's possible disintegration. The claim, framed as Germany preparing a 'fatal blow' to the EU, circulated in discussion of the risk of the union breaking apart, with commentary in Brussels and beyond debating how serious the threat is.
Why now: A prominent German opposition leader publicly threatening the EU with collapse over reform demands is a provocative claim likely to draw attention and debate.
