Dozens of Data Centers Seek Approval on Western Public Land
Dozens of data center projects are seeking approval to build on public land in the western United States. The proposals come as demand for computing power, driven largely by artificial intelligence, pushes developers toward large, cheap sites. Conservation groups, including The Wildlife Society, are flagging concerns about the impact on wildlife habitat and publicly owned landscapes.
Why now: Rapid growth of AI-driven data center construction is raising fresh concerns over wildlife and public land use.
