Software may be getting worse, but it used to be horrible
A new essay argues that while complaints about declining software quality are widespread today, software of the past was far worse. The piece looks back at earlier eras of development to argue nostalgia distorts how people remember reliability, prompting debate among developers about whether modern software has genuinely deteriorated.
Why now: Developers are actively debating whether software quality is declining or nostalgia is clouding memories of past failures
