British-supplied Storm Shadow cruise missiles struck the Energia plant in Russia on Sunday afternoon, hitting the facility during the day shift. Energia manufactures thermal batteries used in Iskander ballistic missiles, Pantsir air defence systems and UMPK glide bombs, making it a significant link in Russia's weapons supply chain. The strike is being discussed as a major escalation in long-range attacks on Russian defence industry.
Why now: A rare strike on a key Russian munitions supplier has drawn wide attention amid the ongoing war in Ukraine.
