Pentagon readies major US bases to run 90 days off-grid

Original: Pentagon prepares major U.S. military bases to operate 90 days off-grid in wartime 'FORTRESS' initiative

The Pentagon is preparing major U.S. military bases to operate independently of the civilian power grid for up to 90 days under an initiative called 'FORTRESS,' aimed at keeping installations functional during wartime. The program focuses on self-sustaining power, water and logistics so bases can continue missions if infrastructure is attacked or disabled.

Why now: Concerns about wartime vulnerabilities of U.S. infrastructure and great-power conflict readiness are driving attention to base resilience plans.
