Climate campaigners condemn approval of Jackdaw gasfield
Original: "Climate campaigners condemn ‘maddening’ decision to approve Jackdaw gasfield" # UK # UnitedKingdom # Climate # ClimateC
UK regulators have approved the Jackdaw gasfield in the North Sea, prompting condemnation from climate campaigners who describe the decision as 'maddening'. Critics argue that greenlighting new fossil fuel projects undermines the UK's climate commitments, while supporters point to energy security concerns. The Guardian reported the story, and environmental groups are calling on the government to reverse course and prioritise renewable energy investment instead.
Why now: The approval of a new North Sea gasfield reignites debate over the UK's fossil fuel licensing and climate targets.
