An ETH Zurich student has recreated Switzerland in Minecraft at a 1:1 scale, converting official Swisstopo geodata into a game world where one block equals one metre. The project, called Blocks, uses the federal survey data to build the entire country in the game. The full map is available only to residents of Switzerland, a restriction that is drawing attention and discussion alongside the technical achievement.
Why now: The unusual combination of official Swiss geodata, an entire country recreated in Minecraft, and a Switzerland-only distribution has caught people's interest.
