Brazil marks holiday with heavy road traffic and long weekend
Original: feriado
Brazilians are discussing the holiday across several fronts. Authorities estimate 16.7 million vehicles on state highways during the break, while a newly decreed national holiday falling on a Friday is expected to create a three-day weekend in November. In Tocantins, Palmas and Araguaína moved the state holiday marking the state's creation to October 9, though Fecomércio and unions kept existing labor agreements in place for October 5.
Why now: A new national holiday decree and projections of heavy holiday travel are drawing attention across Brazil.
