NFL kickers have been remarkably accurate this season, converting 167 of 170 attempts from inside 37 yards. Jaguars kicker Trey Smack was responsible for two of the three misses in Sunday's games, drawing criticism given how routine those kicks should be. The rare lapses are drawing attention because scoring at least a field goal once an offense reaches the red zone is expected to be near-automatic.

Why now: A rarely reliable stage of the game saw unusual misses, making Smack's errors stand out in Sunday's NFL action.

Evidence

• NFL kickers are 167-for-170 from inside 37 yards. Trey Smack had 2 of the 3 misses Sunday. Once an NFL offense gets inside the 20-yard line, coming away with at least a field goal should be just about a sure thing. https://www. nbcsports.com/nfl/profootballt… · top_news · 1
