Archbishop Timothy Broglio, who leads the US military's Catholic archdiocese, has publicly condemned Pentagon plans to livestream an execution. The criticism adds a religious voice to growing debate over the defence department's decision, with opponents arguing the broadcast would be degrading and set a troubling precedent for how the US military carries out capital punishment.
Why now: The unusual combination of the Pentagon livestreaming an execution and a senior military archbishop's public condemnation has sparked debate over ethics and military justice.
