US immigration agents have carried out a search at the home of Ilhan Omar, the Democratic congresswoman representing Minnesota. Omar, who came to the United States as a refugee from Somalia, has been a prominent critic of hardline immigration enforcement, and the reported search is drawing wide attention and reaction across political circles.

Why now: The search of a sitting congresswoman known for her refugee background and criticism of immigration enforcement is an extraordinary and politically charged event.
