Vucic concedes defeat as Serbia's student movement wins election
Original: Serbia's Vucic concedes election defeat in historic win for student movement
Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic has conceded defeat in a snap election, marking a historic victory for the country's student-led movement. Students, who mobilised mass protests and entered politics to challenge Vucic's long-standing rule, appear set to take power. The result marks a major political shift in Serbia and one of the most significant electoral upsets in the Balkans in years.
Why now: A long-dominant leader conceding defeat to a grassroots student movement is a rare and momentous political upheaval.
