4 GB RAM No Longer Enough for a Modern Desktop
Original: It's sad that a modern desktop can't run well on 4 GB RAM. Tonight we visited a woman who studies on a university online
A Linux user reports that a lightweight laptop built last year with 4 GB of RAM is struggling to keep up with a student's online university coursework, despite a trimmed-down Linux Mint install that boots using only about 1 GB. The story highlights how web-based study tools and modern software have grown heavy enough that even optimized systems now constantly swap, reviving debate over baseline memory requirements.
Why now: It resonates with people frustrated that even minimal, optimized systems can no longer comfortably handle basic everyday computing.
