ReactOS, the open-source Windows-compatible operating system, can now be installed on NTFS partitions on an experimental basis. Its new NTFS driver can format NTFS partitions and run as the system filesystem, building on FreeLoader's 2022 NTFS boot support. Caching, journaling and filesystem security are still missing, so bugs are possible and the feature is not yet considered stable.

Why now: It is a notable technical milestone for an open-source project aiming to replace Windows, bringing it closer to real NTFS compatibility.
