Original: Swapping horses for ninja warriors: The Olympic sport undergoing massive change
Modern pentathlon is undergoing its biggest overhaul in over a century: horse riding will be dropped after the Paris 2024 Games and replaced with an obstacle course race, dubbed by some as 'ninja warrior' style. The change follows controversy at the Tokyo Olympics, where a coach was removed for striking a horse, and aims to make the sport more accessible and viewer-friendly ahead of the 2028 Los Angeles Games.
Why now: The sport's governing body has confirmed a radical format change, sparking debate among fans and athletes.
