ICE agents no longer stationed outside Santa Cruz County Jail
Original: ICE agents no longer present outside Santa Cruz County Jail
Federal immigration agents are no longer stationed outside the Santa Cruz County Jail in California, according to a report from the Santa Cruz Sentinel. The withdrawal ends a visible federal presence at the facility, and is likely to draw reaction from immigration advocates and officials in a county known for its sanctuary policies. It remains unclear when the agents left or what prompted the change.
Why now: The visible withdrawal of federal immigration enforcement from a local jail touches on the ongoing national debate over immigration enforcement.
