Why Gopher Still Matters in 2026
Original: Why Gopher in 2026?
A phlog post titled 'Why Gopher in 2026?' is drawing attention, arguing for the continued relevance of the Gopher protocol, the pre-web document distribution system from the early 1990s. The piece, hosted on a small-community Gopher server, reflects growing interest in the 'small web' movement, with readers debating why people still choose minimal, non-commercial protocols over the modern internet.
Why now: Ongoing interest in the small web and alternatives to the commercial modern internet is prompting renewed discussion of Gopher.
