Trump threatens California coastal protections over list of demands
Original: Trump wants to strip California of coastal protections unless state yields to list of demands
President Trump is seeking to remove California's coastal protections unless the state complies with a set of federal demands, according to the Los Angeles Times. The move targets the state's authority over its coastline, a power California has held for decades. The report is drawing attention to the escalating conflict between the White House and the nation's most populous state over environmental regulation.
Why now: The reported federal threat to a state's long-standing environmental authority is a new escalation in the Trump administration's conflict with California.
