Young Belgian keeper Mike Penders in the spotlight at Chelsea

Original: mike penders

Belgian goalkeeper Mike Penders is drawing global attention after a mixed spell at Chelsea. Dutch and Belgian outlets report he scored an own goal in a heavy defeat, while other headlines say he made club history at Chelsea and is being tipped as Thibaut Courtois's long-term successor for the Belgian national team, with comparisons drawn between the two keepers.

Why now: Interest is spiking because Penders combined a high-profile mistake with reports that Chelsea sees him as a historic signing and Belgium's future number one.
