Singapore probes 10 firms over Indonesia haze fires
Original: Singapore requests information from 10 locally registered firms as it expands its probe into haze-creating fires in Indo
Singapore has asked 10 locally registered companies for information as it widens its investigation into fires in Indonesia that have caused hazardous haze across the region. Authorities are examining whether the firms have links to the burning, which periodically chokes Singapore and neighbouring areas with smoke and raises concerns about corporate accountability for land clearing.
Why now: Haze from Indonesian fires is a recurring public health and environmental concern for Singapore, and the expansion of the probe into local firms is new and significant.
