ZDF chief criticizes Böhmermann's Magazin Royale

Original: zdf magazin royale

The ZDF director general has publicly criticized Jan Böhmermann's satirical show ZDF Magazin Royale, suggesting it may have become too fanatical. A CDU politician has also accused the program of misconduct, putting the public broadcaster under pressure in Berlin. The criticism from within ZDF itself and from conservative politicians has sparked debate about the future direction of the satirical format.

Why now: The ZDF leadership itself publicly turning on its own high-profile satirist is unusual and touches ongoing political debates about public broadcasting
