Developer open-sources tool to dumb down then smarten a TV

Original: Show HN: Making a smart TV dumb and then smart

A developer, Anubhav Malhotra, has released a project on GitHub that makes a smart TV dumb and then smart again, stripping unwanted software to rebuild the device with custom, user-controlled features. Readers on Hacker News are engaging with the idea of taking ownership of smart hardware rather than accepting manufacturer defaults, drawing comparisons to debates over ads, tracking and bloatware on smart TVs.

Why now: Frustration with ads, tracking and locked-down software on smart TVs makes DIY reclaim projects popular right now.
