Deadly crash on French sidewalk sparks debate

Original: trottoir

In France, searches around the word 'trottoir' (sidewalk) are being driven by a fatal accident in Ariège, where two people in their seventies were killed on a sidewalk; the driver, now under formal investigation, says he has 'no memory' of the crash. Other stories feeding attention include the autumn question of whether residents must clear fallen leaves from pavements, and the final tour of Lamballe's street-culture group Les Oiseaux de Trottoir.

Why now: A fatal sidewalk accident in Ariège, with a driver claiming amnesia, is drawing attention to the topic.
