MEPs urge EU to list Yemen's Houthis as terrorists
Original: MEPs call for Yemen's Houthis to be added to EU terrorist list
Members of the European Parliament have called for Yemen's Houthi movement to be added to the EU's list of terrorist organisations. The appeal comes amid the group's ongoing attacks on shipping in the Red Sea, which have disrupted global trade. The designation would freeze assets and restrict the movement of Houthi leaders in Europe, but officials have so far been cautious about severing channels needed for peace talks and humanitarian aid.
Why now: Ongoing Houthi attacks on Red Sea shipping have renewed pressure on the EU to formally designate the group.
