Mpox cases rise in Brazil's Greater ABC region
Original: mpox
Health authorities in the Greater ABC region of São Paulo state have confirmed six mpox cases, a small but growing count that is drawing local attention. Internationally, a study from Sierra Leone found that chickenpox dominated rash illnesses previously suspected to be mpox, highlighting ongoing diagnostic challenges with diseases that present similar symptoms.
Why now: New confirmed local mpox cases in Brazil and new research on mpox-like rash illnesses are keeping the disease in the news.
