Skip the raking this fall, experts urge: leaves help the environment
Original: Leaf it be: Skip the raking this fall. It's better for the environment
Environmental and conservation authorities are telling homeowners to put away the rake this autumn. Leaving fallen leaves on lawns and garden beds provides winter habitat for insects and pollinators, returns nutrients to the soil as they decompose, and cuts down on green waste sent to landfills. The advice is gaining attention as people look for simple, low-effort ways to make their gardens more wildlife-friendly.
Why now: It is autumn in the northern hemisphere, when seasonal raking habits meet growing interest in eco-friendly gardening.
